Clearing helps Alastair keeps politics dream alive

Alastair Crooks

Alastair Crooks has his heart set on a career in politics after gaining a place at university through clearing.

The Blackburn College student achieved B grades in A Level Politics, History and Sociology.

Although that meant he missed out on his first choice, which was to study Politics at Newcastle University, he did manage to get in at Lancaster University, where he will study for a Joint Honours Degree in History and Politics.

The 18-year-old, who has recently spent time working for Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans, said: “It’s a big relief to get in at Lancaster.

“Obviously, it was disappointing not to get in at Newcastle because I have some family up there.

“However, I quickly got on the phone and managed to get a place at Lancaster, which is great news because when I had a look around there I really liked it.

“I’m going to be doing history and politics as a combined degree, which should be good because I really like both subjects.

“That will hopefully stand me in good stead for a career in politics further down the line.

“I’ve been doing some work for Nigel Evans over the summer and I’d really love to do something in politics after Uni if possible.”
