This is an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice to join a world leading Engineering company located near Burnley as an IT Network Apprentice.

 

Main duties will include:

• To provide day to day IT support

• To complete Network administration

• Install and update hardware / software

• Maintain department database

• End-use support for UK and International locations

• Identify and resolve network concerns

• To undergo ongoing training and professional development

• To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role

• Assisting in ensuring security procedures are effectively implemented and maintained

• To support the IT team in the daily back-up routines

• Contribute to continuous improvement at Fort Vale

Person Specification

Skills

Be able to demonstrate an interest and understanding of IT in a business environment

High degree of computer literacy – to include competence in the following Microsoft applications – word processing, spreadsheets, databases, file management, e-mail and the internet

Basic understanding of PC hardware set-up, configuration and Microsoft operating

Good organisational skills, problem recognition and dispute resolution

Ability to work accurately and to tight deadlines

Ability to work effectively within a team

Ability to work on own initiative to think through problems to find solutions within agreed guidelines

Ability to manage workload effectively

Good communication and listening skills

Ability to promote Fort Vale in a positive manner

Ability to answer and speak confidently on the telephone

To be able to recognize and implement the need for professional confidentiality

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Qualifications

4 GCSE’s at Grades (including Maths and English) minimum grade C or equivalent.

The appointment will be subject to applicants passing an initial assessment through Blackburn College.

Training to be Provided

IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals Level 3 includes:

NVQ, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT L2

Requires day release attendance in College 1 x day per week plus on the job skills training.

Also full training to be provided on:

Ensuring maximum availability of computer systems throughout the company

The provision of IT infrastructure services including desktop applications, Local and Wide area networks, IT security and telecommunications

Assisting in the management of network system security to provide the latest protection against viruses and other types of network vulnerabilities

Monitor and maintain network and server performance levels

Maintain and monitor backup schedules and routines

Installation, set-up and maintenance of new hardware and software

Maintaining equipment inventory and network documentation

Managing printers, photocopiers and supplies.

Help desk, practical user support and training

LAN/WAN/WIFI

TCP/IP

Future Prospects
