Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and punctual individual to join our team as an apprentice kitchen assistant.

The hours are 9.00m – 5.00pm Monday to Friday, which is 37.5 hours per week, with a 30-minute lunch break.

The successful applicant will be responsible for their travel expenses to and from work, therefore must have the means to get to their place of work on a daily basis.

The wage per week will be £127.50 per week which will be paid monthly.

Main Duties

  • You will assist the Chef with the efficient running of the kitchen to make sure all relevant checks are carried out before starting.

  • You will set up equipment ready for the beginning of your shift.

  • Carrying out basic food hygiene preparation tasks.

  • Ensuring the chefs are equipped with the tools they need.

  • Be able to follow the kitchen’s clean as you go policy, and adhere to the health and safety requirements at all times.

  • As you learn about the menu and how to prepare foods – you will ensure that recipes are followed correctly when assisting the Chef.

  • Preparing meat, salad, and vegetables.

  • Assisting the chef with stock taking.

  • Receiving and checking food deliveries.

  • Ensuring that all kitchen equipment is maintained, and is working correctly.

  • Maintaining portion control and ensuring that wastage is kept to a minimum.

  • Spot potential hazards in the work place and make sure you are supporting a safe and hygienic environment.

  • Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen at all times.

  • To understand the meaning of confidentiality due to the nature of the clientele they will be working with.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must be willing to work towards a Nationally recognised qualification, being either Level 2 Professional cookery, or Level 2 Food Production and cooking.

All aspects of NVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery

Will be trained in the workplace and assessed either totally in the workplace or one day release at college.
