Blackburn College in partnership with Jane Binnion are pleased to offer the opportunity for you to attend our new Social Media and Business Strategy suite of courses.

 

About the tutor:

Jane Binnion is an award-winning social media and ethical sales trainer and author of The Heart of Sales, She is based near Lancaster and works with organisations across the UK.  Jane is a qualified and experienced adult trainer, so has a deep understanding of learning styles.  Her background was mostly in charities and local government, where she was trained to be systematic, and solution focused.   As a result she now specialises in strategy and policy.  Jane is an ethical entrepreneur and uses social networking to grow her own successful business. 

 

Jane & Social Media: 

Success in social media and sales is all about the relationships that we build.  With a degree in sociology, a background in community work and training in Business Education from Phil M. Jones, she brings a full understanding of human interaction that will bring you the results you want.

What will I study?

Making Social Media work for your organisation:  This is a hands-on session which will explore how to make social media work most effectively for your organisation.   The workshop will give a tour of the main social media platforms and will address the following questions (plus any others you may have):

    Which are the best platforms for me?
  • What is the correct etiquette?
  • How do I build my following?
  • How often & what should I post?
  • How do we create good quality, relevant content?
  • How much time should I spend on social media?
  • How do I manage it all?
  • How do we know if it’s working?

 

And, because safety is important you will also have the opportunity to watch ‘#THINK’ - the social media policy staff training film. 

You will be sent a simple strategy document and by the end of the workshop you will have started to build a social media strategy that works for your organisation.

Using Twitter for business growth:  Twitter is a fast and influential platform; many organisations use it successfully for networking, marketing and customer care.  This half day workshop is aimed at anyone who runs a business, or a not for profit organisation, has a twitter account and would now like to learn how to use Twitter effectively. 

 

The session will include:

    What is twitter?
  • Why before How – Developing a plan
  • Tour of twitter (How it works) & twitter tools
  • Looking good - Check your Bio and images
  • Send a tweet, re-tweet, reply and like
  • The perfect tweet
  • Do’s and Dont’s – etiquette and team policy
  • Other good stuff - Twitter Hours, Blab and Periscope
  • Action points, evaluation and what next

 

By the end of this workshop you will have:

    Had a tour of the Twitter tools and understand what they all do
  • Looked at your own Twitter profile and made any changes that would improve it
  • A good understanding of the role of Twitter for business/organisation growth
  • Explored the most common mistakes people make with Twitter - and how to avoid them
  • An understanding of Twitter Etiquette
  • An understanding of Twitter analytics
  • Developed a Twitter strategy for your organisation.
  • An action plan to implement immediately

LinkedIn for you and your business:  Did you know that every single second of the day, 2 new members join Linkedin?  It's the world's largest professional platform.  Learn how to make the most of LinkedIn for your business, to network, generate leads and make sales.

What you’ll learn on this workshop:

    How it works - the basics & etiquette
  • How to create the best profile for you and your business
  • Getting your message across on LinkedIn without selling
  • How to drive visitors to your website through LinkedIn
  • How to find people the right people to connect with
  • How to use LinkedIn groups, a company page and Pulse

By the end of the workshop you will have an action plan to implement immediately

Facebook Strategy and your business:  A 2014 Ofcom report noted that Facebook remains the default social networking site for almost all UK adults who are online; 24 million people in the UK check into Facebook daily and 1 in 7 people on the planet are using it.   That makes Facebook a pretty powerful communications tool for small organisations who want to be found by and communicate with their customers with 42% of marketers reporting that Facebook is critical or important to their business.

 

This is a small group workshop for people who are fairly new to Facebook for business use, or have a page that they are not using well.  This half day workshop will get you using Facebook for business safely and effectively covering:

 

    Starting with a strategy - How to make best use of Facebook to grow your organisation
  • Exploring all the tools
  • The rules – including competitions
  • Ensuring your page is attractive and has all your up-to-date information
  • Exploring Facebook adverts, one of the most cost-effective forms of paid marketing
  • Monitoring and analytics

 

By the end of the workshop you will have an action plan to implement immediately.  We will work live so please bring your log in details - and questions 

 

 

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however we would ask that students have basic computer skills and have a good command of English.

 

Please ensure that you already have your social media account(s) activated as there will not be the opportunity to set these up and remember to bring your passwords and log in details so that you can work live during the sessions.

 

Don’t forget to bring any questions that you may wish Jane to answer!

How will I be assessed?

No formal assessment.

You will be sent a simple strategy document and by the end of the workshop you will have started to build a social media strategy that works for your organisation.
