Overview

This fun cookery course is aimed at the confident cook who wishes to further their own skills and impress your friends with some professional cookery techniques used in some of the best restaurants around the Country. A basic knowledge of cooking is not necessary, all you need is the confidence and desire to better your own culinary skills within a relaxed & welcoming environment.

What will I study?

The Perfect Steak always starts from the Butchers. By using the best quality of meats we will firstly talk you through the differences between various cuts so you can really get your head around what each steak is all about & what to look for when you go shopping.

A well-cooked steak is sometimes hard to perfect, however here at Blackburn College a professional Chef will take you through the step by step process of preparing a steak to the highest possible standard. You will be shown the correct cooking methods and also how to garnish the finished dish using classic French techniques such as the classic béarnaise sauce.

The following is an outline of the course:

    Welcome and Cookery Brief
  • What makes a good steak?
  • Preparation of your steak
  • Jenga chips master class
  • Make your own Béarnaise sauce
  • The perfect garnish
  • Cooking your steak to perfection
  • Taste test

Once you have been shown some of the ‘trade secrets’ you will each cook your own perfect steak just how you would like it in your favourite restaurant.

How will the course be delivered?

This 3 hour course will be delivered in a professional demonstration kitchen on campus at Blackburn College. With a blend of resources, this fun session is aimed to be mostly practical with elements of theory behind particular skills & topics.

What will I get at the end of the course?

You will obtain the skills and knowledge to replicate todays dishes created in the comforts of your own home or even the workplace. These new skills can be showed off during dinner parties and special occasions when you want to bring the gourmet restaurant to your own home.
