Overview

This is a part time course for adults who are employed in a children and young person’s setting. You will demonstrate how you meet a set of National Occupational Standards for the role of a child care worker and show that you have the level of skills and knowledge to complete your work effectively.

This qualification has been developed as the result of a review of the existing residential childcare qualifications and provision driven by the Secretary of State for Children and Families in light of the recent reports highlighting the shortfalls in residential childcare. This qualification confirms competence in these areas where appropriate and serves as the required qualification (for all new practitioners) for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector.

What will I study?

You will complete 16 mandatory units and 3 optional units from a choice. The Level 3 Diploma is made up of 61 credits and some of the topics you will cover are:

  • Support rights, diversity and equality
  • Promote effective communication
  • Support the well-being and resilience of children and young people
  • Understand the development of children and young people
  • Support attachment and positive relationships
  • Engage in professional development.
