Overview

This qualification is designed for learner’s post-16 and above.

The qualification is intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities.  Learners can develop a more “hands on” approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational areas.  The skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for work through real or stimulated work situations and may contribute too preparing them for working life beyond education.

The qualification is intended to give learners a solid base from which to further develop their skills and learning.

What will I study?

There are a range of occupational units for you to choose from:

TCB115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce Bricklaying skills

    Know the hand tools used in bricklaying processes.
  • Know the materials used in bricklaying processes
  • Know the personal protective equipment

(PPE) used in basic bricklaying processes

    Be able to apply safely working practices to produce half-brick walling
  • Be able to work responsibly with others
  • Be able to seek and respond to guidance when working as part of a team

TPB115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce Plumbing skills

    Know the hand tools/materials/components to be used in the plumbing processes.
  • Understand the personal protective equipment

(PPE) to be used in the plumbing processes.

    Be able to perform plumbing operations
  • Be able to work responsibly with others

AD115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce using a camera & accessories

    Be able to create images using camera
  • Be able to transfer images from a camera for printing
  • Understand health and safety issues and procedures

MP115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce media production

    Be able to find out about an aspect of creative media
  • Be able to demonstrate work related skills in presenting information as a team member
  • Be able to review work related skills in finding out about an aspect of creative media

AD114/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce explore digital photography

    Explore digital photography
  • Be able to generate ideas for photographic images
  • Be able to review own work

TID115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce design an interior

    Develop and present initial ideas using a given design brief
  • Produce a detailed drawing of their design ideas including appropriate information on sizes, materials, scale, finishes and client details.
  • Review the design process

TCC115/Q1

Level 1

Occupational studies for the workforce Carpentry Skills

    Know about hand tools used in Carpentry
  • Be able to use face and edge marks
  • Be able to saw a line
  • Be able to plane timber and use a chisel.

How will I be assessed?

How will I be Assessed:

This will consist of a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of 100% of the learning outcomes associated with each unit.  The evidence could include:

    Worksheets
  • Practical work
  • Assignments
  • Assessor observation
  • Candidates proof of work
What can I do next?

Following the successful completion of one of these qualifications, learners may progress to work-based learning/traineeships or progression to further learning in a range of subjects within the FE sector is also possible due to the broad range of options in these qualifications.
