Overview

The course is made up of five modules of British and European History. In the first year we study Italy in the critical period between 1900 and 1926. The first year also introduces students to Britain in the 17th Century focusing on the causes and events of the English Civil War. The second year carries on this theme by analysing the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell, the Restoration of Charles II and the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Finally in the second year there is a Personal Study based on a student’s own choice of topic, for which they research a 3,500 word essay.

What will I study?

The second year also develops the Italian History module by analysing the Fascist period in Italy. Finally in the second year there is a Personal Study based on a student’s own choice of topic, for which they research a 3,500 word essay.

Entry Requirements

In addition to the general Sixth Form entry requirements (5 Cs at GCSE or equivalent i.e. grade 4 in reformed GCSEs), you will also need a minimum of a GCSE Grade C in History if taken.

How will I be assessed?

A-Level students will be assessed by written exam and coursework.

What can I do next?

History is one of the most well regarded subjects by top universities and employers. History graduates go into professions such as the law, journalism, the civil service, business and politics. Historians turn up in a variety of places, including celebrities like Al Murray and Sacha Baron Cohen.
