CIPD Intermediate Certificate and Diploma* in Human Resource Management (Level 5)
Who is the course for?
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the awarding body of this Intermediate Certificate, have recently developed their range of HR Professional qualifications. This followed an extensive period of consultation to ensure that the course is completely up-to-date and relevant to the HR practitioner.
The emphasis is on thinking managerially and how HR practice contributes to success of organisational practice.
What will I study?
You would normally have a CIPD Level 3 certificate qualification, A Levels or an equivalent qualification. You will also need the support of your employer (or an equivalent) to be able to undertake the assessments, which have a work based element.

How will the course be delivered?
The course will be held at the University Centre on the main campus in Blackburn. The Diploma course will on one afternoon and one evening per week (provisionally Tuesdays for the academic year 2013-14). The Certificate course will be offered one evening per week starting at 5.00pm. You will study alongside the Diploma structure and undertake the same assessments.
In addition, for both the Diploma and Certificate streams there will be an extra study period to complete one unit and this will be spread over two periods, provisionally a Friday and Saturday. The date will be early in the course and the tutor will notify you of these at the start of the course.
A range of assessment methods will be used such as assignments, group work, timed assessments, role play, assignments and case studies. In many of the assessments you will be required to use your own workplace as a case study.
Course Entry Criteria
This course, set at Level 5 (second year degree level) is designed to give an all round grounding in the main skills and knowledge used by line managers and human resources practitioners when managing employees and dealing with the associated human resource management problems.
The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:
• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost
All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.
What will I get at the end of the course?
CIPD Intermediate Certificate OR Diploma in Human Resources Practice (Level 5).
What can I do next?
Once you have successfully completed the course you may consider undertaking the CIPD Level 7 Diploma in Human Resources Management or Development. The course team will adivse you on the suitability of this course in terms of meeting your personal learning needs.
How much does it cost?
Diploma: £1,920.00
Certificate: £1,420.00
(The certificate does not include modules: Resource & Talent Planning or Managing & Coordinating in the HR Function)
In addition you will be required to pay direct to the CIPD a joining and annual subscription fee (approx. £200). In addition students are advised to put aside approximately £200 per year for text books)

Both Certificate and Diploma Students will also need to attend on the following dates to study the Reward Management Module: Friday 11th October & Saturday 12th October and Friday 8th November & Saturday 9th November 2013 – Details about these dates will be given at course commencement.
