Overview

This Level 2 course in Business is practical and work-related. You will develop employability skills that will help you succeed in your desired career. Career opportunities include; Business Owner, Marketing, Management, Customer Services, Accountant, Solicitor, Human Resource, plus many more.

The course is equivalent to 3 GCESs at grades A*- C and will help you to gain a better understanding of business structure and planning, customer services, book-keeping and legal requirements.

What will I study?

The course is made up of core units and additional specialist units. These specialist units allow you to explore particular topics in more depth, such as:

  • Business Support
  • Personal Selling in Business
  • Customer Relations in Business
  • Customer Rights
  • Bookkeeping in Business
  • Business Enterprise
  • Managing Personal Finances
  • Promoting and Branding in Business
  • Visual Merchandising & Display Techniques for Retail Business

Most students will be required to study Functional Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and Information Technology. Students will also have the opportunity to study Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Personal Finance (ICPF)

Entry Requirements

At least a profile of Grade Ds at GCSE including English or Maths.

How will I be assessed?

During the course students will be set assignments and tests that will be graded and an overall grade for the qualification awarded.

What can I do next?

With a Merit or Distinction overall grade you can progress to a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business. You may also wish to pursue A-Levels or other vocational qualifications around college, for example, Public Services, Health & Social Care, Construction etc.

Facilities

You will study in The Elizabeth building – an addition to the 1888 Old Victoria building, situated on the college campus, in the heart of Blackburn Town Centre.

You will also benefit from free wireless access throughout the building and a library and resource centre providing in excess of 60 computers and 45,000 books.

Enrichment & Employability

Blackburn College Business & Law students regularly implement business ideas to generate money for charities, and students often run a business publicity roadshow. We hold an annual Dragons’ Den event where students pitch their ideas to a panel of business delegates and students also benefit from regular guest speakers from the legal and retail management fields.

There will be an opportunity to study an additional unit in IFS – the Institute if Financial Services to gain extra UCAS points.

If you study at Level 3 you will also have the opportunity to join the Business Career Academy and gain a 6 week paid internship, an industry mentor and extra UCAS points.

Our tutors also organise social events to attractions such as Manchester United, Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach, as well as educational trips London’s Old Bailey, High Court and Houses of Parliament.
