This Level 2 Light Vehicle qualification covers the technical needs for todays motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in the workshop. You will study in our brand new £5.5 million Regional Automotive Technology Hub. The workshops incorporate a real life garage environment and MOT station where you will work with up-to-date professional equipment on a range of modern vehicles. We have strong links with North West dealerships, including Nissan, Skoda, VW Audi and BMW.
- What will I study?
You will study both the theory and practical aspects of the following:-
- Carrying out routine vehicle maintenance
- Removing and replacing engine units and components, electrical auxiliary units and components and chassis units and components
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. Your time will be divided between practical workshop sessions and classroom sessions to provide the supporting theory.
- Entry Requirements
Either a relevant Level 1 qualification or 3 GCSEs at Grade D or above including Maths & English at grade C.
- How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by the IMI Awards set practical assessments in the workshop, IMI set on-line multiple choice testing and assessments set by us.
- What can I do next?
After completing the Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Course, many students go on to study the Level 3 course. Other students progress in to employment or on to an apprenticeships, subject to relevant employment.
