Overview

This Level 2 Diploma in Travel & Tourism will get you off to a flying start! Are you interested in meeting new people, travelling the world, trying new cuisines and calling it A JOB? Then studying Travel and Tourism is just for you. Getting the chance to try all aspects of the travel industry, including cabin crew training, event and excursion planning, plus the opportunity for work experience abroad, makes this course an exciting and dynamic area of study. You will also have the opportunity to gain guaranteed job interviews within the Travel and Tourism industry, as well as take part in numerous trips and visits related to your course.

What will I study?

At Level 2, you will study introduction to Cruise Operations, European Holiday Destinations, Exploring Airports and Airlines, Organising a Travel and Tourism study visit, Exploring Marketing and Customer Service in Travel and Tourism.

Entry Requirements

Usually a profile of Grade Ds at GCSE including Maths and English Language.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in Travel and Tourism through 100% coursework. Throughout the year you will be set assignments, role plays, case studies, presentations, leaflets and projects across all subject areas. You will produce both individual and group work that will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Grades in all your subjects will be combined into an overall grade for the qualification.

What can I do next?

Students achieving a Merit or Distinction Grade and a recommendation from the course tutors can progress onto Level 3 Travel and Tourism, or pursue employment in the Travel and Tourism industry. Future career prospects include:

Facilities

To help students improve their cabin crew skills, Blackburn College have installed an airplane fuselage, equipped with walkway, seats and hand luggage compartments. One of our other classrooms is also set up as a mock Travel agents for those students wishing to progress into a career in travel retail.

Enrichment & Employability

Our students supplement their studies with additional courses in Cabin Crew, Resort Representatives and Aviation Operations.  These national awards will give you a guaranteed job interview with two airlines, a resort representative company and a Ground Handling Agent.

The Sixth Form has a wide-range of enrichment activities on offer, including sport, nail art, languages, drama, music and our famous Knitting Club.  You’ll be encouraged to keep busy and have fun with our Enrichment programme.

Guest speakers are often invited into Travel and Tourism classes to impart their career experiences. This includes British Airways Cabin Crew, Travel Agents, Resort Representatives plus many more.
