STEM Bonus

The STEM bonus is an additional payment of £1000 to 20 students studying a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths based discipline. To be eligible for the STEM Bonus you must:

• Be studying full-time on programme from the School of Science & Technology or on one of the following programmes: FdSc Complementary Medicine, FdSc Advanced Flexible Materials, BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology (Counselling & Health)
• Be a UK domiciled undergraduate student paying £7000 per annum tuition fees
• Enrol on the course
• Not be continuing from an existing programme of study at UCBC to another (eg. from a HND to the top-up honours degree programme)
• Not be being funded by an employer
• Be undertaking your first undergraduate degree programme
• Not be taking part in the National Scholarship Programme
• Other terms and conditions may apply.

Payment of the STEM bonus

The bonus will be paid in three instalments in the first year of your course only. Payments will be subject to satisfactory attendance and submission of work.

Applications

Applications for the STEM bonus should only be made once you have firmly accepted your offer of a place at University Centre at Blackburn College. To apply for the STEM bonus you will need to complete a short application form. The applications will be judged shortly after enrolment. You will need to write in your application why you feel you should receive the bonus. The judging panel will look both for applications that demonstrate academic achievement as well as strong industrial achievements.

Notification of Successful Application

After our closing date for applications to the STEM Bonus scheme – a panel will assess all applications to the scheme. You may be asked to provide more information or attend a short interview, where necessary. 20 applicants will be offered the Bonus subject to certain criteria being fulfilled. These criteria will include, but aren’t limited to: the successful achievement of our entry requirements or the conditions of your offer from University Centre at Blackburn College and your enrolment to the course. There may be a second round of offers made to the STEM Bonus scheme made should these criteria remain unfulfilled by some of the applicants. We therefore will not let applicants know whether they have been unsuccessful to the STEM Bonus scheme. Unfortunately we will be unable to offer feedback on your application. If we offer you a place on the STEM Bonus scheme, but the criteria we set are unfulfilled, we reserve the right to reallocate the Bonus to another student.
