Enlgish Language Requirements

To be able to apply as an International student at Blackburn College you will need to have taken a Secure English Language Test.

The UK Home Office request that International Tier 4 study Visa students take the UKVI Academic IELTs, Secure English Language Test, to apply for the Tier 4 study Visa.

The scores from the UKVI ACADEMIC IELTS test determines your eligibility to apply for and study a particular level of course. (www.ielts.org)

To study a level 3 Further Education (FE) or Lcvel 4,5 Higher Education(HE) Foundation Programme you need to attain the score of B1 at UKVI Academic IELTs which is a minimum of 4.5 in each component of the test.

The 4 components of the UKVI Academic English IELTs are Speaking, Reading Writing and Listening.

To study a degree Programme at Level 6 you need to have attained the score of B2 which is a minimum of 5.5 in each component and overall

If you need help to prepare for the UKVI Academic IELTs, Blackburn College can offer our short Preparation for IELTs/General English for International Students qualification for all courses below degree level with the aim of gaining a higher IELTS score. You can attain the 11 month short-term study visa for this course. 

Confirmation of Acceptance (CAS)

You may find that we ask you to take part in Skype Interview before we issue you with an offer to study and the Confirmation of Acceptance Letter. This interview is to not only assess your level of English, but to find out about you and the research you have done regarding the study you have chosen. The Skype interview will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about studying at Blackburn College. Skype is a free tool that you can download to your computer. It helps if you also have a Webcam.

UK Home Office & Tier 4 Visas

You will need to have been successful with your application for a Tier 4 Visa before you are allowed to study at Blackburn College.

A Tier 4 Visas is the recommended Visa required for any student over the age of 16, who wishes to study a 2 year  academic programme in the UK.
