Blackburn College student set to travel the world to gain dream job after A-Level success
A Blackburn College student is set to travel the world in the hopes of following his dream to become a dentist.
Zain Chishty, 18 who currently lives in Blackburn, gained an A* in Chemistry and As in Maths and Physics and is now going on to study a Masters in Dentistry at the Plovdiv Medical University in Bulgaria.
Zain, who is originally from Pakistan, came to Blackburn over two years ago specifically to study at the College.
He said: “I’m very happy with my results, especially the number of points that I gained. I’ve told my sister who said she was proud, but I’ve not managed to speak to the rest of my family.
“I moved over here with my cousin two years ago because we wanted to study A-Levels and get an international education and we heard that Blackburn College was a very good place to study.
“I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do after I finished College, but I did some work experience in a dentist and it really helped to give me a great insight into the field and made me keen to study it at university.
“The A-Level courses have been fantastic, in particular I’ve really enjoyed looking at quantum mechanics in physics. I’ve also made a lot of friends here which I will be sad to leave. The teachers are all wonderful and I’ve been very impressed by the level of technology and the level of professionalism.
“I’m looking forward to moving to Bulgaria, it is a lovely country.”
Blackburn College students achieved a 100% pass rate in 22 A-Level subjects with the highest performing A-Level programmes including Accounting, Further Maths, Government and Politics, Classical Civilisations and Fine Art.
The College’s continued success - year-on-year improvements for three years running - means this year’s students are set to progress to top universities across the country including Lancaster University, the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester, and Blackburn College’s own University Centre where 85% of degrees are awarded by Lancaster University and with over 3000 students in 2016.
Principal and Chief Executive Dr Thomas Moore was delighted with the results.
“We would like to congratulate all the students on their hard work and dedication and wish them well in the future.
“Special thanks must be given to the College’s excellent team of academic staff for their continued commitment to outstanding teaching and learning.
“Students consistently tell us that the academic support and guidance received from their teachers and support staff is a key reason for their high level of success and in the results of the National Student Survey 2016 of Higher Education Institutions in England, the University Centre at Blackburn College was placed in the top 25% nationally for academic support.”
Places are still available on a range of courses at Blackburn College.
