Our libraries are vibrant and have been newly refurbished with state-of-the-art technology such as self-issue machines, VDI computers and 250 drop-in PCs and laptops, providing you with with all the software you’ll need to get ahead in your studies.

We have a substantial collection of learning resources including more than 55,000 books, a wealth of magazines, and DVDs. Our 24/7 library of online databases, journals and e-books mean that you can fit your studies into your busy lifestyle whether you're on campus, at home or even on holiday.

Everyone has different study styles and we have zones, spaces and study rooms to meet your needs, including group study areas, quiet study spaces and silent study rooms.

Helping you to succeed

Our friendly and supportive staff can help you to find a book, print a document or navigate your way through the online library. And it doesn’t stop there. We also offer photocopying, colour and black and white printing, a wide range of very reasonably priced stationery, daily newspapers, and binding, laminating services to help you get that polished look for your essays and reports.

Visitor Information

We welcome visitors to use our University Centre Library but you must first acquire a visitor’s pass from the Beacon Centre Reception. This service is only for those over 16 years of age – you will need to provide ID showing proof of age (see below).

All visitors are required to leave before 5.00pm (4.15pm on Friday).

As a visitor to the College Library you will be required to:

  • Only use the University Centre Library
  • Report to the University Centre Library Service Desk to sign in and out of the Library
  • Follow the Code of Conduct, you can get a copy of this on arrival at the University Centre Library
  • Sign out and leave before 5.00pm (4.15pm on Friday) at both the Library and College Reception

Blackburn College Reception closes at 6pm Monday to Thursday and 4.30pm on Fridays. Please be aware that the University Centre Library closes at 4.30pm on a Friday too.

Identification Required

When visiting, we ask you bring two forms of identification.

1. Proof of your name and address, this can be:

  • A bank statement or bill dated within the last three months complete with your name address.

2. A piece of photographic ID giving proof of age, this can be:

  • A current and valid UK College or University ID card; passport or diving license.

You will need to present both forms of ID at the Beacon Centre Reception. There is a short form for you to complete but you will then be given a Visitor’s Pass to access the University Centre Library.

We offer library visitors a place to studyonly, the use of print resources for the purposes of individual research and study on a reference onlybasis and access to our free Wifi (BBColl).

Library visitors are only allowed access to the library, toilet and café facilities. Access to the prayer room and other facilities or areas around the Campus and buildings are not allowed. Library visitors should also be aware that only minimal support will be available from library staff. Therefore, visitors should make sure they have the library and information skills necessary to interrogate catalogues and locate material on the shelf for themselves.

Please note: Access to the library is conditional upon the visitor agreeing to be bound by both the Library Service and the institution rules and codes of conduct and therefore, access could be withdrawn for infringement at any time.
