Skills for Work
- Studied: Skills for Work
I found nothing but positives and would recommend the course that the Skills for Work team offer
How did you feel before starting the course?
I started the course not knowing anyone, so I was a little nervous as I had not been in education for a while. I was unemployed and had little if no confidence in myself. I was offered a course at Blackburn College through the job centre, but I didn’t want to attend and was really negative at the thought of it.
How has the course/tutors helped?
On the first day I was met at the Beacon Centre. The place looked huge and overpowering and I felt like I didn’t belong there.
The tutor greeted us, but I didn’t know anyone. We went to the classroom, where we took part in an icebreaker activity and as the day went on I began to feel more and more at ease.
The tutors I met worked hard with us and I began to realise the skills and qualities I had. As a result, my confidence started to grow, plus I was meeting new people and communicating – which all added to the fun we had learning.
How have the employers co-ordinators helped you?
At the end of the course I had a brand new, updated CV to show off. We had done mock interviews and again this helped me so much with my confidence and selling myself to potential employers. I felt I could really go for a job.
What aspects have you found useful?
I found nothing but positives and would recommend the course that the Skills for Work team offer – they are a friendly bunch from start to finish. From the administration team, to the tutors, everyone is there to support you. A big thank you to you all.
