Advanced Learner Loans
Refresh your career prospects for the price of one coffee a month.
Advanced Learner Loans are designed to make education affordable and accessible.
These loans are ideal if:
- You are aged over 19 and already have a Level 3 qualification (such as A-Levels)
- You are aged over 24 (even if you don't have a Level 3 qualification
There are no upfront fees. These are not like loans that you get from a bank and the repayments only start when you are in employment and earning over £25,000 a year. To offer you more peace of mind, these repayments come straight out of your salary and will stop if your income drops below £25,000.
Advanced Learner Loans are available to cover tuition fees for your chosen course. To apply online or for more information please visit www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan or contact our Student Finance Team.

Meet Emily - Level 3 Interior Design
Keen designer Emily didn't think there was anyway she could afford to go back into education until she dropped into The Hub at Blackburn College and had a confidential meeting with Dianne, one of the finance support advisors. Dianne recommended Emily apply for the Advanced Learner Loan, the £500 Support Allowance and 90% contribution towards childcare.
"Getting back into education was so much easier than I thought. Without the Advanced Learner Loan, Support Allowance and £2,639 per year I received for childcare, there is no way I would be where I am today. I can now concentrate on progressing to University to continue my dream of being a set designer for TV and catwalks".
Meet Chris - Level 3 Interactive Media and Software
Part time carer and father of two Chris always wanted to go back to college, but didn't think it was possible as the fees were too high. It wasn't until he called the finance team at The Hub and enquired about course fees that he realised an Advanced Learner Loan would solve his problem.
"The Hub gave me advice about the loan and all the extra financial support available. It is really rewarding knowing I am making the right steps into a future career without having to pay anything at all. In fact I was amazed at how much extra financial support I was entitled to".
