Blackburn College Sixth Form is a major provider of the highest quality academic and vocational education in East Lancashire. The College Sixth Form portfolio includes A Levels, ESOL provision and a significant Creative Arts portfolio. We are one of the few Colleges in England to offer the highly successful University of the Arts London (UAL) Foundation Diploma in Art and Design programme.  We have been providing quality education for many years and continue to grow and develop to meet the demands of our local school leavers and adult learners. Our diligent Sixth Form staff work to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn, enjoy and achieve at College.

The Post

Leadership of our Sixth Form will require commitment to growth, relevance and academic excellence to address the aspirations and expectations of students. The role will require leadership across academic and operational domains.

The Assistant Principal: Sixth Form will provide leadership of the Academic Studies and Creative Arts teams to deliver an excellent student experience by generating an academic culture that blends education and professional practice.  

Leadership of the Academic Studies and Creative Arts teams will be inspirational and will enable staff to develop across the different functions contributing to excellencein teaching and learning.

The Assistant Principal will be a member of the College’s Leadership Team.

The Person

Applicants can come from the full spectrum of FE/Sixth Form College institutions and must have relevant experience and perspectives. The person will have high credibility within the College and in all its strategic and operational contexts.

Successful delivery of the role of Assistant Principal: Sixth Form requires a person who will add value to an already developed body of provision, and will:

- demonstrate clear understanding of both the market and policy context affecting academic and vocational studies,

- ensure full compliance with official mandates, demonstrating knowledge of achieving best institutional outcomes;

- be comfortable with and demonstrate success in meeting targets;

- deliver clear and inspirational leadership,  complemented by the ability to translate policy into successful delivery;

- have an acute understanding of and practice in business planning for a Sixth Form;

- develop external links as appropriate, incorporating business opportunities and academic partnerships;

- provide an additional dimension and dynamic to College leadership.
