Overview

Awareness Health and Safety at Work is designed to teach both employees and employers why health and safety in the workplace is so important in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

What will I study?

Everyone has a role to play in ensuring their own health and safety at work, as well as that of their colleagues.

Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that from 2016-17, half a million UK workers developed a musculoskeletal condition as a result of their job, and 137 people suffered a fatal accident at work. In the same 12-month period, 0.6 million non-fatal work-related injuries were recorded, and 31.2 million days of productivity were lost due to employees needing time off because of an injury or illness obtained on the job.

Combined, these incidents cost the UK economy some £14.9 billion.

Therefore, it is vital that employers are adhering to health and safety regulations to protect their staff, members of the public and the wider economy.
