Overview

The level 3 Certificate in Mortgage Advice meets the FCA’s qualification requirements for mortgage advisers. It develops an understanding of the sector and the mortgage process, enabling advisers to meet individual client needs.

Angelo Kornecki

Angelo is a passionate advocate for higher level education within the Financial Services Profession and has extensive experience within the Financial Services Industry, having worked in Retail Banking and Financial Planning for a large global bank, as an Independent Financial Adviser with clients throughout the North West and is currently the Founder and Director of AKORN Financial Advice Ltd, a fast growing, forward thinking Financial Advice firm based in Blackburn.

Angelo holds the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning from the CII and holds Chartered Financial Planner status, one of the industry’s highest accreditations, proving and supporting the highest levels of technical knowledge and professional ethics. In addition to being a practising Financial Adviser, Angelo is also a lecturer on the FdA Accounting with Financial Services and BA (Top up) Accounting with Financial Services degree courses at the University Centre at Blackburn College, heading up and delivering the Financial Services Pathway on both courses. He also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E) from the University Of Central Lancashire (UCLAN).

What will I study?

The Certificate comprises two core units, R01 - Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics Module and CF6 – Mortgage Advice.  There is no prescribed order in which units must be taken, but it is strongly recommended that you sit the R01 – Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics Module first as this provides the foundation knowledge upon which the CF6 is built.

 

By the end of the course, candidates should be able to understand the:

  • house-buying process, from making an offer to completion and the key parties involved
  • different types of borrowers and how to meet their individual mortgage needs
  • different types of mortgage product and repayment options and their suitability for the
  • client
  • legislative and regulatory position of mortgages and the requirements of a mortgage adviser

 

Course Reading (Outside of the classroom):

Students are expected to undertake at least 5 - 7 hours of reading per week (As a guideline it is suggested that Students complete 100 hours of study (inclusive of the taught sessions) and make use of RevisionMate and CII Resources prior to sitting the exam.  Your tutor will direct as to required reading topics.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions at the next session.  Preparation for each session is essential. 

 

PLEASE NOTE:  The College are providing a total of 15 hours guided learning/support hours per unit with the remaining CII recommended learning hours to come from the students own self-study.   The total CII recommended study hours (which will obviously vary based on experience and ability) are as follows:

  • R01 – 60 hours
  • CF6 – 100 Hours

 

What's included:

The cost of the full Certificate includes study text, access to the CII’s RevisionMate, exam guide and exam entry for each module (first sitting).  Please note that examinations are taken at a test centre external to Blackburn College.

Entry Requirements

Student membership of the CII is mandatory.  This is free and can be done online with the CII.

 

Please note that the first 5 weeks of this course are delivered on a Tuesday and the second half is delivered on a Wednesday.

 

Diploma units are assessed by multiple-choice question exam (MCQ) (R01 &  CF6).  For online MCQ exams, result notification is immediate on completion.  For paper-based MCQ exams, results are released five weeks’ following the exam sitting.  Written exam results are normally released 6-8 weeks following the exam sitting.

 

 

How will I be assessed?

R01 -      2 hour exam, 100 multiple choice questions

CF6 -      3 hour exam, 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs), 5 case studies, each comprising 5 MCQs
