Whether you’re starting out in your HR career or already working within a support level role, the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Human Resources Practice will provide you with a solid foundation of all areas of HR and develop the essential skills and confidence you need to progress your career further.  It is suited to individuals who are:

  • looking to get into HR, or progress in a new HR role
  • working at a support level, e.g. HR Administrator/HR Officer
  • a non-HR manager with people management or HR responsibility
  • looking to prove your credibility and become a CIPD professional member –   successful completion of this qualification automatically leads to Associate   membership of the CIPD, the first level of professional membership
What will I study?

To gain your CIPD Foundation Certificate you must complete the following six units:

Developing yourself as an effective HR practitioner (4DEP) - Discover the knowledge and skills you need to work in HR and learn how to deliver timely and effective HR services to meet users’ needs, while planning your own personal development.

Understanding organisations and the role of HR (3HRC) - Learn how HR activities support an organisation’s strategy and assist the achievement of business objectives. Learn about the importance of organisational context and how internal and external factors shape HR activities. 

Recording, analysing and using Human Resources information (3RAI) - Develop your understanding of the important contribution that accurate data makes to the HR function. The unit spans the remit of data management including HR planning, recruitment and selection, performance and reward management, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedures and electronic record management.

Supporting good practice in Managing Employment Relations (3MER) - Understanding and effectively managing the employment relationship effectively is a key part of the role of the HR practitioner. Understand what constitutes good practice and gain an introduction to employment law within the context of employee relations.

Supporting Change in Organisations (3SCO) - At the end of this module you will be equipped with the skills to understand the internal and external reasons for change within an organisation. You will explore the role of Human Resources in effectively supporting individuals through change and the key factors involved in the change process.

Identifying Learning and Development Needs (3LDN) - This module supports the development of the skills required to undertake an effective identification of others’ learning needs. From a consideration of why individual and group learning needs arise, and the importance of being aware of them, identifying them and recognising factors that might influence them.

Resourcing talent (3RTO) - Organisational success depends on having the right skills mix. Learn about the factors that impact on an organisation’s resourcing and talent planning activities. This includes everything from attracting ‘talent’ to recruitment, selection, induction and importantly, retention.

This page is currently being written during the current Pandemic emergency and the information contained in it was correct at the time of writing.

In normal circumstances, our Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Level 5 programme are taught and delivered in the classroom, with online teaching support materials; with the programme up to a maximum of ten months long and assessment normally being completed through written assignment and skills activities.

Recently, during lockdown, we have been delivering teaching using online digital learning approaches, and, in particular, virtual teaching sessions using Microsoft teams and similar online virtual meeting software packages. This format of teaching and delivery may be included in some of our future delivery and assessment going forward.

As a College, we are currently awaiting clarification from the Government and the public health authorities regarding what future arrangements we will need to be make in respect of social distancing and other related safety arrangements and therefore you are advised that our anticipated approach to teaching delivery and assessment being conducted at College may subsequently need to be amended for health and safety considerations, the well-being of others, and/or operational reasons, and should this be required in the academic year 2020-2021, we reserve the right to make any necessary amendments accordingly.

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to submit a copy of your CV for consideration for acceptance onto this course showing that you will benefit from studying on this qualification.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a mixture of written assignments, reports and skills activities. There is an additional tutorial period each week and one longer study period built into the course. There is an additional tutorial period each week and two longer

What can I do next?

Following successful completion of the Certificate course, you may consider taking the CIPD Intermediate Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management (Level 5) and then later, with the appropriate seniority in job role, the CIPD Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management (post graduate Masters Level 7).
