This is a part time course for adults who are employed in a children and young person’s setting. You will demonstrate how you meet a set of National Occupational Standards for the role of a child care worker and show that you have the level of skills and knowledge to complete your work effectively.

Within the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, you will study towards a Children’s Social Care pathway which is suitable for, practitioners in residential care, foster carers, domiciliary carers with children, and appropriate children’s setting workers.

This qualification confirms competence in these areas where appropriate and serves as the required qualification (for all new practitioners) for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector.

What will I study?

The Level 3 Diploma is made up of 65 credits and some of the topics you will cover are:

  • Principles of duty of care
  • Health & safety
  • Child and young person development
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people
Entry Requirements

You must be employed in an appropriate child care setting. For the social care pathway this may include foster care, respite, community based or domiciliary care and residential care

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by an approved assessor, who will visit you in your workplace to observe and assess your practical work. You will submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding and complete assignments and activities.

What can I do next?

You may progress on to a Foundation Degree or A-Level 5 qualification in Leadership.
