This qualification has been developed by Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) specifically to develop high performing HR professionals who understand how to use HR practices to meet organisational needs and add value. It will also help employers attract individuals with potential who want to develop a career in a business related profession. Upon successful completion, Apprentices will gain access to become an Associate Membership of the CIPD of which there is a cost for annual memership and is paid directly to CIPD.

What will I study?

Apprentices will study a range of HR –related subjects, and apply these within the work situation. HR professionals for whom this standard is suitable are typically either working in a medium-to-large organisation delivering front-line support to managers and employees, or are HR professionals/HR managers in a small organisation.

It may be beneficial to purchase CIPD textbooks to accompany the Diploma qualification elements of the programme - these are approximately £35-£50 each.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements will be decided by the employer with study based upon CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Apprentices without Level 2 Maths and English will need to achieve these prior to taking the End-Point Assessment.

How will I be assessed?

Satisfactory completion of individual or group assignments to achieve their CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma; plus an End-Point Assessment involving completion of a work-based 5000 word Consultative Project and a Professional Discussion.

Assessments could include group projects, essays, assignments or briefs, presentations, group presentations and portfolio building.

What can I do next?

Successful completion of this standard enables the apprentice to become a CIPD Associate Member (Assoc CIPD) and progress to higher level management roles and/or CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma qualifications.

Human Resources Officer

If you enjoy working with people and you're looking for an office role, this could be the perfect job for you. Human resources (HR) officers, also known as personnel officers, look after hiring and developing employees. They look after their welfare too.

Most employers will want you to have qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. You will also need to have a good standard of general education. Previous experience of office work would help.

To become a human resources officer, you need to be tactful and friendly. Sometimes you’ll need to be firm too. You will also need to be careful with confidential information.

Future income

HR assistant administrators can earn around £15,000 to £19,000 a year. Salaries for human resources officers can be between £18,000 and £25,000 a year.

HR managers can earn between £25,000 and £50,000 a year or more.

Additional Apprenticeship Information

Apprentices should work for at least 30 hours per week and an Apprenticeship takes between one and five years to complete, depending upon the level of Apprenticeship and the industry sector. Most of the training is delivered in the workplace, so you will learn the skills you need to do the job well. The rest of the training is given by Blackburn College, either at the workplace, in College or via e-learning. The training is specifically tailored to ensure you develop the skills the employer wants, giving apprentices a real advantage in the workplace.

This means that apprentices not only have better long term salary prospects, but they also have excellent progression opportunities, whether looking to study further or climb the ranks within the workplace.
