This programme will provide you with an introduction to the skills required to be successful in the beauty industry.

You will learn make-up application, manicure and pedicure treatments plus nail art.

Many of our students build their confidence through practicing their new skills within the on campus salon and spa, Academy.  With the level 2 and 3 students to support and guide level 1 learners. 

Many of the course tutors have come from the beauty industry and provide industry knowledge as to how to present a professional image and what it required to work within the beauty sector.

What will I study?

This course includes the following:-

  • Presenting a professional image
  • Skin care
  • Basic make-up application
  • Basic manicure treatments
  • Basic pedicure treatments
  • Nail art
  • Working with others


16-18 year old students qualify for free kit and uniforms. Students aged 19 and over may qualify for subsidised uniforms based on individual needs

Entry Requirements

You will be required to attend an interview and provide evidence of good attendance, punctuality and a commitment to achieve.


How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments on models in a realistic working environment. Theory assessment may be online or paper based.

What can I do next?

If successful in your studies you will decide, through guidance with your tutor, as to which Level 2 Diploma course to follow to enhance your career prospects.

Based in the Elizabeth Building within our £65 million campus, our salons are equipped to the highest industry standards. We have our very own commercial Spa Academy Hair and Beauty studios, including a spa, five hairdressing salons, a specialist barbering salon, a nail room, four beauty therapy studios and a media make up studio.

Enrichment & Employability

Every year, our hair & beauty students compete in Regional and National competitions such as the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists, The National Hair Federation Competition and Skills Olympics.

We also take our students to regular external events such as trade exhibitions, fairs and seminars, and trips to Wella, Illamasqua and Dennis Williams, to enhance their knowledge and learning experience.

To help our students learn about working in the industry, we host an annual industrial week where a number of employers and manufacturers such as Dermalogica, Jane Iredale and NSI come in to college to teach extra-curricular skills and provide advice on how to gain employment or progress to the next stage of your career. Many of these employers also offer work placements and voluntary opportunities, to help our students become ready for the workplace.

In additional to this, students also have the opportunity to take part in community events at schools, community centres and charity events which builds confidence, skills and enhances your CV.

Many of our students have gone on to own their own salons and you can even progress onto higher education following your studies.
