The EAL Level 1 Diploma in Engineering Technologies is a practical, theoretical & work related qualification suitable for a wide range of students giving an introduction to the Engineering sector.

The qualification provides an introduction to the practices and processes of engineering technologies.  It covers knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to a variety of careers and study routes within the engineering industry and takes on a hands on approach to engineering study.

What will I study?

The course is made up of 1 mandatory unit plus optional units from a broad range of professional and subject-specific units, offering learners the chance to study particular areas in depth and an opportunity to follow a clear specialist pathway. All students study the mandatory unit plus the following units:-

  • Introduction to Working in Engineering.
  • Introduction to Machining Engineering Materials
  • Introduction to Electronics
  • Introduction to Electrical Installation
  • Introduction to Basic Maths and Science used in Engineering
  • Working with Customers
  • Introduction to Computer Aided Drawing (CAD)
  • Engineering Project Planning
Entry Requirements

No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required to register for this qualification. All students will need to demonstrate an active interest in Engineering.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by online exams and submission of a portfolio. 

What can I do next?

On successful completion of the study programme you may look to enter full time employment within the engineering industry & onto the apprenticeship scheme, or you may also consider the Level 2 course in Engineering
