Level 1 Music is a one year programme and a great introduction to the world of Music. This course will provide you with practical, hands-on experience giving learners the chance to explore different aspects of Music and to develop a wide skill set ranging from performing music and writing music, to sound recording and music promotion.
You will have the opportunity to experience a diverse and exciting programme of study including input from music industry professionals. In addition you will benefit from relevant work related experience within local music venues and studios to provide technical and performance work experience to enhance your chances of employment and give you a taste of working in a creative career.
You will engage with real live projects from local music venues and recording studios through to working with national bodies such as The National Festival of Making and Creative Lancashire.
You will also have the opportunity to particupate in study trips to gain inspiration and help improve your understanding of the music and related industries.

- An introduction to the music industry, styles, artists and record labels.
- Explore the broad range of skills required for the music performance and music production industries.
- Use research techniques to explore different musicians and musical genres to improve and inspire ideas and personal work.
- An introduction of how to communicate with an audience
- Produce individual, personalised work through a music project in performance, production or related disciplines.
- Entry Requirements
This course is aimed at students who do not have GCSE qualifications at Grade C or above. Successful candidates will undertake a discussion at which they will need to demonstrate a keen interest in the Music industry.
- How will I be assessed?
How will I be assessed:
Assessments are continuous, with regular feedback given so you know exactly how you are progressing. In the final stages of the course you will produce a final major project. This will be set internally and externally moderated. Staff will advise and guide you through these stages and encourage you to use all the skills gained throughout the course.
- What can I do next?
After successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to a UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music and onwards to other higher level specialist areas where appropriate.
