On this Level 1 Plumbing course you will spend time in the workshop environment developing the use of hand and machine tools, and within a classroom carrying out assignment activities to underpin the knowledge required to be a plumber.
- What will I study?
The course will take approximately one year to complete and students will study at Level 1. There are 5 units to the Ascentis Level 1 programme, consisting of practical and theory based subjects:
- Introduction to the construction work
- Principles of Health and Safety
- Handling and Storing of Materials and Components
- Personal Work Skills
- Carrying out Plumbing Operations
Unit 13 consists of Plumbing operations, including copper pipe bending techniques, pipework fabrication and jointing techniques e.g. fabricating copper pipework using solder fitting, fabricating pipework using compression fittings, fabricating pipework using plastic push-fit fittings, testing the completed tasks to the current industry standards
- Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs at Grade E/2 in Maths and English Language or completion of an Entry Level or Foundation Studies course.
- How will I be assessed?
Some of the units are internally assessed which will allow you to create the necessary evidence to cover the specific units. Other units are externally assessed and this will take place by completing a project.
- What can I do next?
Successful students could move into employment within the plumbing industry (apprenticeship) and therefore be eligible to undertake the City and Guilds 6189 NVQ Level 2 programme, or progress onto the City and Guilds 2000/02 Level 2 programme (Full-time).
