Overview

Leading providers Blackburn College and Rossendale Dance & Drama Centre (RDDC) have joined together to give you the opportunity to really boost your potential by giving you access to leading dance professionals and first class facilities. 

You will work in a professional environment with industry experts and gain hands-on experience through showcasing your talents at our Annual End of Year Show, the National Festival of Making and through partnerships with national and international venues.  You will divide your time between the professional dance studios, performance and fitness suites located at RDDC and Blackburn College, with transport being provided for you.  You will build your resilience and stamina to ensure a sustainable career.

You will benefit from being taught by leading industry professionals including masterclasses with choreographers, performers and professional dance teachers such as Rebecca Onley, PD Dip LUKA AA1 RAD RTS. Rebecca is a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance Rebecca trained at the Northern Ballet School and has built a successful career as both a performer and soloist. 

Take advantage of the study trips to New York and London to experience and access the amazing choreography of the Broadway shows and take part in the Wicked West End workshop. 

Go backstage with some of the world biggest performers and choreographers.  Students have worked on live collaborative briefs from The 1975, Stereophonics, Liam Gallagher, Neil Barlett OBE and the Welsh National Opera.

This course is designed to help you take your next step in achieving your dream career, whether directly into employment or onto Higher Education.

What will I study?

You will undertake training in:

  • Principles of performance
  • Engaging with an audience
  • Introduction to professional practice
  • Production and performance skills and context
  • Collaborative performance project
  • Exploration of specialist study and content
  • Classical, contemporary and cultural dance.

As Blackburn College has a Progression Partnership with University of the Arts – London (UAL) you will also take advantage of their workshops and university application support. 

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 including English Language and maths or completion of a Level 2 course.  You will need to complete a successful audition and interview.

Students progress to leading professional dance training providers, including: The Royal Academy of Dance, The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and Laine theatre Arts.
