The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Environmental Sustainability has been developed in the environmental and sustainability sector to give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the environmental/ sustainability sector or to progress to higher education qualifications such as the HND/FDSc in sustainable construction or other degree programmes. This course is suitable for 16 to 19 year olds who may have already decided upon a career in the sustainability/environmental sectors. The course covers a wide and varied range of modules which will allow learners to make informed decisions about their future careers in that area.
- What will I study?
This course is made up of 8 mandatory units plus optional units from a broad range of professional, industry-related subject specific units. This offers the students the prospect to study particular areas in greater depth and the opportunity to follow a clear, specific career path.

Students should have a BTEC Level 2 portfolio with a Merit or Distinction Grade in a relevant area or at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*- C. Equivalent qualifications and relevant professional/industrial experience will be considered.
- How will I be assessed?
Students who gain BTEC qualifications will also earn UCAS points and when the course is completed can apply for University places. The majority of modules studied on the BTEC Level 3 in Environmental Sustainability are assessed through coursework, case studies and presentations. No exams!
- What can I do next?
Once you have completed your Level 3 Extended Diploma, you will be able to apply to a range of Universities. A triple distrinction in your Extended Diploma gives the same level of UCAS Tariff points as 3 As at A-Level. Many students progress to University Centre at Blackburn College where 9 out of 10 graduates are in work or further study just six months after graduation. Particular courses students progress on to include: Construction and the Built Environment HNC, Construction (Sustainable Design) BSc (Hons), Construction (Project Management) BSc (Hons) or Construction (Building Surveying) BSc (Hons). Typical career routes are Sustainability, Energy Management, Building Management and Estate Management.
