This Level 3 Hairdressing course will enable you to be at the level industry requires from their hairdressers, by learning specialist skills and techniques in creative cutting, colouring, styling hair and supervisory skills.

What will I study?

The course will cover mandatory and optional units that will give specialist skills to progress your career options. Units include:

  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Colour using a variety of techniques
  • Provide colour correction services
  • Creatively dress long hair
  • Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills

If any of these units have been achieved previously, other optional units may have to be covered.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing or other relevant industrial experience.


How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments on models in a realistic working environment with industrial timings. Theory assessment can consist of online or paper based testing under examination conditions.

What can I do next?

You will be able to progress to a Level 4 QCF qualification, Foundation Degree or a teaching qualification if you are successful in your studies.

Based in the Elizabeth Building within our £65 million campus, our salons are equipped to the highest industry standards. We have our very own commercial Spa Academy Hair and Beauty studios, including a spa, five hairdressing salons, a specialist barbering salon, a nail room, four beauty therapy studios and a media make up studio.

Enrichment & Employability

Every year, our hair & beauty students compete in Regional and National competitions such as the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists, The National Hair Federation Competition and Skills Olympics.

We also take our students to regular external events such as trade exhibitions, fairs and seminars, and trips to Wella, Illamasqua and Dennis Williams, to enhance their knowledge and learning experience.

To help our students learn about working in the industry, we host an annual industrial week where a number of employers and manufacturers such as Dermalogica, Jane Iredale and NSI come in to college to teach extra-curricular skills and provide advice on how to gain employment or progress to the next stage of your career. Many of these employers also offer work placements and voluntary opportunities, to help our students become ready for the workplace.

In additional to this, students also have the opportunity to take part in community events at schools, community centres and charity events which builds confidence, skills and enhances your CV.

Many of our students have gone on to own their own salons and you can even progress onto higher education following your studies.
