This Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care, Cadet Programme is equivalent to three A-Levels and is ideal for those interested in a career in the health professions.
It is a two year course delivered in two one year durations.
This course provides valuable experience in a variety of different healthcare settings, primarily within the NHS, East Lancashire Hospitals Trust. These varied experiences enable Cadets to develop essential skills and qualities to a high standard, significantly enhancing your prospects of employment or Higer Education / Degree aspirations.

You will undertake a minumum of 4 work placements during this 2 year course, which will provide you with a total of 700 hours of experience working in the clinical areas of outpatients, wards and Birthing Suites. You will alternate one week in College and one week in placement throughout the duration of the Cadet Programme.
Due to the high level of interest in the Cadet Programme an additional interview will be required.
- What will I study?
The course consists of 13 Health & Social Care units, which include:
- Lifespan development- from conception to old age.
- Working in Health & Social Care - roles and responsibilities.
- Meeting individual care and support needs - communication, ethics, equality and diversity.
- Anatomy and Physiological Disorders, investigating conditions that affect the body and the relevant treatments.
- Research, how and why research is carried out, focussing on research from the Health & Social Care sector.
- Principles of safe practice within the Health and Social Care sector.
- Caring for individuals with dementia.
You will also have the opportunity for additional training in First Aid, Moving and Handling and Safeguarding.

- Entry Requirements
This programme requires 5 GCSEs with a mix of Grade B and C (4,5,6) including Maths and English Language.
A successful DBS check will also be required.
Due to the high level of interest in the Cadet Programme an additional interview will be required.
Please ensure that you complete your application to the Cadet programme by the end of February.

Assessment is through exams and coursework
- What can I do next?
This qualification is widely accepted for university entry onto nursing (childrens, adult or mental health) midwifery, paramedic or other related health or care related degrees, or alternately students may gain employment in a health related profession on completion of the course.
