The tourism and hospitality industry is an exciting and rapidly developing sector of the UK economy, seeing expansion in terms of job opportunities, every year.

This varied course will provide you with an insight into the travel and tourism industry, and its key component areas, and will include a mandatory work placement within a hospitality setting, providing valuable experience to help you to secure your dream career.

You’ll have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of both day, and residential trips including; residentials to London, cabin crew training centres, and adventure tourism resorts.

What will I study?

You will study a wide range of modules, linked to the travel and tourism industry. 

These will develop existing knowledge of travelling and holidays, such as; UK, European and Long Haul Destinations, Customer Service, and introduce you to modern and innovative concepts including; Researching Current Issues, Events, Conferences & Exhibitions and Responsible Tourism

Entry Requirements

5 x Grade C GCSE or equivalent, including English Language

How will I be assessed?

The new BTEC Level 3 assessment includes a range of internally assessed coursework based modules, including practical activities such as; role plays, presentations and demonstrations, alongside written assignments and reports.

What can I do next?

Your work experience, or NCFE Cabin Crew qualification, may have inspired you to pursue a job role within the industry upon completion of your course.  Our tutors have exceptional industry links with major international airlines, handling agents at local airports, retail travel agents and tour operators providing employment as holiday representatives.  However, this is just a snapshot of the vast number of roles available within the industry.

You can also further your study, progressing to a range of higher education programmes within the College, such as Hospitality Management, Events, and Business.

Within our classrooms, we have a mock aircraft cabin, which helps our lessons take flight.  You’ll have access to all the facilities of our £65 million campus, in the centre of Blackburn, with fantastic transport routes around Lancashire.

Enrichment & Employability

Our students supplement their studies with additional courses in Cabin Crew, Resort Representatives and Aviation Operations.  These national awards will give you a guaranteed job interview with two airlines, a resort representative company and a Ground Handling Agent.

The Sixth Form has a wide-range of enrichment activities on offer, including sport, nail art, languages, drama, music and our famous Knitting Club.  You’ll be encouraged to keep busy and have fun with our Enrichment programme.

Guest speakers are often invited into Travel and Tourism classes to impart their career experiences. This includes British Airways Cabin Crew, Travel Agents, Resort Representatives plus many more.

Enrichment & Employability

You’ll complete a mandatory one week work placement, within the hospitality and tourism industry, you will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of employability focussed trips and visits, including; Manchester Airport, Cabin Crew Training, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and local hotels. 

Alongside this, you’ll be able to learn from the wide range of industry based experience from your tutors, and through their industry links, will take part in guest speaker sessions by;
