This is a full time Level 2 Beauty Therapy programme that delivers a comprehensive Level 2 qualification, which is designed for budding Beauty Therapists.

What will I study?

The course will cover mandatory generic and technical units plus optional units which you will be guided on.

Mandatory units include:

  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to Health and Safety
  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Provide facial skin care treatment
  • Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes
  • Carry out waxing services
  • Provide manicure services
  • Provide pedicure service
  • Reception duties
  • Application of Make-up

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or equivalent.

For mature students alternative entry qualifications or experience will be considered.

Initially you will be required to attend an information and guidance interview. You should have a good record of attendance, punctuality, good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments on models in a realistic working environment with industrial timings. Theory assessments can consist of online, paper based or assignments.

What can I do next?

You could progress onto a Level 3 Beauty Therapy or Level 3 Beauty Spa and Holistic Therapy Practice to enhance your employability.

Beauty Consultant

Beauty consultants sell beauty products by helping customers choose the right products to buy. In this role you’ll give customers advice on how to make the most of their appearance, and sometimes give makeovers to demonstrate products.

To do this job you’ll need an outgoing personality and a friendly manner. You’ll need to be able to communicate well and have excellent customer service skills. If you’re interested in fashion and make-up then this job may be perfect for you.

You don’t need any specific qualifications to become a beauty consultant. You’ll need a smart appearance and a high standard of personal hygiene. Experience in retail, sales or customer service would be an advantage. ?

Based in the Elizabeth Building within our £65 million campus, our salons are equipped to the highest industry standards. We have our very own commercial Spa Academy Hair and Beauty studios, including a spa, five hairdressing salons, a specialist barbering salon, a nail room, four beauty therapy studios and a media make up studio.

Enrichment & Employability

Every year, our hair & beauty students compete in Regional and National competitions such as the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists, The National Hair Federation Competition and Skills Olympics.

We also take our students to regular external events such as trade exhibitions, fairs and seminars, and trips to Wella, Illamasqua and Dennis Williams, to enhance their knowledge and learning experience.

To help our students learn about working in the industry, we host an annual industrial week where a number of employers and manufacturers such as Dermalogica, Jane Iredale and NSI come in to college to teach extra-curricular skills and provide advice on how to gain employment or progress to the next stage of your career. Many of these employers also offer work placements and voluntary opportunities, to help our students become ready for the workplace.

In additional to this, students also have the opportunity to take part in community events at schools, community centres and charity events which builds confidence, skills and enhances your CV.

Many of our students have gone on to own their own salons and you can even progress onto higher education following your studies.
