Overview

 

Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management comprises of many different industries.  It is an exciting and rapidly developing sector of the UK economy, seeing expansion in terms of job opportunities, every year. If you would like an introduction in to this exciting career plus study for your GSCE in Maths and improve your GCSE Grade D/3 in English Language then this course is ideal for you.

It is an exciting career path to undertake with this course set to  develop your knowledge and build skills and experiences within the Travel, Tourism, Hospitality and Events sectors. 

During this study programme you will benefit from a wealth of activities ranging from listening to invited guest speakers from British Airways and Emirates, undertake a residential trip to London during which you will take part in a British Airways cabin crew training day at Heathrow Airport.  You will also benefit from training in our mock aircraft cabin at Blackburn College.

You will also gain experience and benefit from investigating responsible tourism and managing tourism's environmental impact.

This varied course will provide you with an insight into the travel, tourism, hospitality and the events industry, and its key component areas. You will complete a mandatory work placement providing valuable experience to help you to secure your dream career.  You can suggest the work placement and we will support you to attain this in thorugh preparing your CV and letters of enquiry, alternatively we can suggest and arrange placements for you.  Placements can range from Manchester Airport to Michelin Starred Hotels-Northcote, Travel Agencies etc.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to go onto our Level 3 Extended Diploma and then into  Higher Education to take a degree within Events Management, International Travel & Tourism etc.  Or you can go directly into your dream career whether this is as cabin crew, as a holiday rep, travel agent, tour operator, within the cruising industry, sustainable tourism, hospitality and events management, aviation in terms of airline and airport support and management plus PR and events managers and planners.

What will I study?

You will study a wide range of modules, these include:

  • UK and International destinations overview
  • Travel business operation
  • Customer service excellence
  • Cabin crew training 

As part of your course you will complete work placements providing valuable experience to help you to secure your dream career.

We will also support you with interview practice, both for one to one interview and a panel or group interview to ensure that you are fully prepared.

You will also study for a  NCFE Cabin Crew qualification, which is  an industry widely recognised qualification.

As part of the course you can study for your GSCE Maths and improve your GCSE English Language grade D/3 and thereby improving your employability.

4 x GCSE Grade D/3  including English Language

How will I be assessed?

The Level 2 assessment includes a range of six internally assessed coursework based modules, including practical activities such as; role plays, case studies, leaflets, posters, presentations and demonstrations, alongside two externally assessed exams.

What can I do next?

Students achieving an overall Merit or Distinction Grade, and a recommendation from the course tutors, can progress onto Travel and Tourism with Events and Hospitality programme Level 3 Extended Diploma or pursue employment in the Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management industries.

Facilities

Within our classrooms, we have a mock aircraft cabin, which helps our lessons take flight!  You’ll have access to all the facilities of our £65 million campus, in the centre of Blackburn, with fantastic transport routes around Lancashire.

Enrichment & Employability

You’ll complete a mandatory one week work placement, within the hospitality and tourism industry, you will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of employability focussed trips and visits.
