Free Essential Digital Courses

These Free Essential Digital Courses are available for all adults who wish to gain new digital skills.

You will gain a new set of digital skills starting with the basics around using different devices and finding information.

There are a whole range of benefits of doing these courses - they will make you feel more confident when shopping or ordering groceries online; help you access internet banking and even help you with children's homework.

Two different levels of course are available to you. We will work out which level is right for you.

You will study subjects such as:

  • Communication online (such as via social media, email and video calls)
  • Transacting (banking and shopping) online
  • Using Apps and the internet to find information
  • Searching and compare services and costs online
  • Searching and apply for jobs and training online
  • Being responsible and safe online and recognising potential threats and scams
  • Storing and accessing information

 

 

What level of digital skills will students require before starting the course?

 

The qualification is designed for students with little or no digital skills or for those who would like to transfer existing ICT skills to everyday use.  There are no formal entry requirements.

Entry Level

  • You will study 2 full days each week with an extra day in week 1 and will study for 3 weeks in total. These are FREE part-time courses for adults and offer flexible hours and various start dates throughout the year.

Level One

  • You will study 3 mornings a week, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9am-12pm.
  • These are FREE part-time courses for adults and offer flexible hours and various start dates throughout the year.

Skills for Work ICT

Skills for Work ITC courses will help improve your computer skills and digital literacy so that you can move on to other areas of study or even think about applying for new jobs. 

You'll learn different tools including getting used to a range of software packages including:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint.

You can start these courses at any time and we will help work out which is the right level of course for you.

You'll be assessed throughout the course and at the end you will be able to complete a Functional Skills assessment to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
