Digital Revolution to Enhance College’s Future
Blackburn College has been awarded £50,000 to support staff members to develop the skills needed to thrive in the evolving Digital sector.
The funding – provided by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) – will enable staff members to receive additional training in technologies that are currently at the forefront of digital innovation – such as augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence. To complement this, staff will also undertake a one-week work placement in industry, to ensure curriculum is aligned to the sector.
Annie Kerfoot – Head of School – Creative & Digital said: “The fact that the world’s biggest companies by market value are Apple, Alphabet (owner of Google) and Microsoft is testament to the continued innovation within the sector. It is imperative Blackburn College continues to align itself with industry to nurture students towards top roles – especially in the UK where the sector continues to outpace the wider economy.”
The two-year programme will also see a review of curriculum, the creation of industry network panels and the facilitation of access to the National Skills Academy to enable students to take part in national, industry-focussed projects.
The Taking Teacher Further programme is a national initiative designed to support the ongoing exchange between Further Education providers and industry so that students can gain the knowledge and skills that employers need.
