University success for primary school children
Youngsters from six Blackburn Primary Schools have become certified University Students, after participating in activities as part of Blackburn Children's University at the University Centre at Blackburn College.
Almost 180 children from Sacred Heart, St. Silas, Wensley Fold, St Michael with St John, St Aidan’s and The Redeemer Primary Schools received national Gold and Silver certificates at the award ceremony held at Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre at Blackburn College on Saturday 14th July 2018.
Over the course of 17/18, over 220 children have achieved silver and gold certification. A further 85 children will receive their bronze awards in school assemblies.
All the children attending the Graduation have completed at least 65 hours of extra-curricular activity, with some achieving over 600 hours.
The certification scheme provides pupils with innovative learning activities and allows students to experience university life from a young age.
By working in partnership with Blackburn Children’s University™ and the University Centre at Blackburn College, this cluster of schools in Blackburn is one of only a handful of institutions to offer this scheme which has grown in popularity over the past eight years.
Students who achieve one of the 100 hour awards are rewarded with a full graduation ceremony in partnership with University Centre at Blackburn College where they wear caps and gowns!
Sara Burton, the Blackburn Children’s University Manager said: “I am thrilled that Blackburn Children’s University is providing the children with the motivation to look forward and see the great opportunities that University life can offer them. It is giving them new experiences that they can use later on in life”
“I’d like to congratulate all of our students on the enthusiasm and energy they have shown since starting at the Children’s University™.”
