Celebrating International Women’s Day

Business women from across the North West celebrated International Women’s Day in an inspirational networking event hosted by staff and students at Blackburn College.

Students from Catering and Hospitality programmes designed and prepared a delicious two course menu with elaborate cupcakes to finish, all served in Blackburn College’s student led restaurant Scholars.

Janine Smith, Commercial Training Manager at Blackburn College said: “It was a fantastic evening which offered business women from across the North West the chance to engage and support each other, in celebration of how far opportunities for women have progressed.

“The ethos behind International Women’s Day is that independence and the movement for equality belongs to women working together and using their collective voice to make positive change.

“We are very proud to have brought so many successful and passionate business women together, providing positive role models for our students and allowing them to be part of such a celebration.”

Three inspiring keynote speakers spoke at the event; Laura Taylor (Professional Speaker and Body Language Coach); Caroline Dakin (Learning Director) and Heather Wright (Award winning Keynote speaker).

Live tweets were created throughout the evening by Business Strategist and Digital Coach, Mayking Tsang.

Janine added: “It was wonderful to hear advice from these three inspirational women.

“They spoke about the about the importance of resilience and how vital it is for women to aim for greatness and manage stress within their busy lives effectively.

“Our Catering and Hospitality students worked extremely hard; Level 2 and 3 Professional Cookery students prepared the delicious meal; Level 3 Patisserie and Confectionery baked the wonderful cupcakes and Level 2 Food and Beverage Service students looked after the guests wonderfully.

“We were delighted to host this event.”
