Blackburn College Takes Home AoC Cricket Regional Crown
On Wednesday 31st October 2018, Blackburn College hosted the Association of Colleges Sport Regional Cricket Tournament. The event took place at Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre and saw five teams compete for a chance to represent the North West on a national stage in 2019.
Chris Bell, Physical Activity Activator said: “Playing host to the AoC Sport Regional Cricket Tournament is testament to not only the world-class facilities we have here at Blackburn College, but also our strong relationship with the Association of Colleges. It has been a privilege not only to host an event of this level of significance, but also to have the opportunity for our students to compete against the best teams in the local area and come out on top.”
Blackburn College faced fierce competition from four other colleges, including Bolton Sixth Form, Holy Cross College, Furness College and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust; finishing 1st in the competition and earning the opportunity to represent the North West in the next stage of the competition.
Alyson Hastie, Regional Development Officer at AoC added: “The AoC Sport North West Regional Competition was played in great spirit. A big thank you to Blackburn College for hosting the event and congratulations to them for earning the opportunity to represent the North West at the National Championships at the University of Nottingham in April 2019.”
This is the fourth time Blackburn College has qualified for the AoC Sport National Cricket Tournament. Coach Ishy added: “This year’s regionals were of an incredibly high standard and all the games were really close. Blackburn College continues to excel at cricket on a regular basis, with this being the fourth time we have qualified for the AoC National Competition.”
