Blackburn students become the first in Pennine Lancashire to benefit from coveted Management Degree Apprenticeship


The first cohort of students studying a brand new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMADA) at the University Centre at Blackburn College have expressed their delight in beginning the prestigious programme.

The first of its kind in Pennine Lancashire, The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) has been designed in conjunction with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Lancaster University –The Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2018.

Run in partnership with The Senator Group and Carlson Filtration, the programme will allow students to work full time whilst studying at the University Centre at Blackburn College one day a week.

Jamie Mccan (21) said: “I’m really looking forward to moving ahead with the programme – it’s a fantastic opportunity to gain a well-respected qualification whilst also working full-time and gaining four years of valuable industry experience.

“I believe that this qualification will provide me with exciting opportunities and employability skills that I wouldn’t initially have achieved just studying for a Degree. I am excited to see where the programme can take me!”

Kate O’Connor (18) said: “I applied for The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) because the idea of working whilst studying really appealed to me, especially when you can learn from experienced industry mentors and tutors from the University Centre at Blackburn College.

“Work experience is so important when applying for jobs and I believe that this programme will open doors for me, help to shape my future career and provide me with the time and support to further and develop my subject knowledge and management skills.”

Caroline Bracewell, Interim Head of School for Health, Science and Technology at the University Centre at Blackburn College said: “The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) is such a fantastic opportunity for both students and employers to experience a Lancaster University accredited Degree Apprenticeship at the University Centre at Blackburn College.

“The skills and knowledge provided within the programme make it an ideal choice for career progression and development, and also allows for the opportunity to progress within the workplace.

“We are delighted to be working alongside Lancaster University to deliver this exciting new qualification and anticipate announcing a second Degree Management Apprenticeship in Engineering very soon, subject to validation.”
