Design students triumph with international award
Two BA (Hons) Graphic Communication students from the University Centre at Blackburn College have been awarded a prestigious YCN International Design Award.
YCN are a design, advertising and branding community that helps to showcase young designers and work with big brands such as Adidas, AXA Insurance and Red Bull.
Ashley Fenlon (31) and Adam Dique (25) collected their award for ‘Outstanding Work’ in the AXA Insurance category at a dedicated awards ceremony held at The Barbican Centre, central London.
Ashley and Adam are both mature students who have returned to education, whilst still working and Adam even became a father whilst completing the project. They were both absolutely delighted to have been recognised for this award.
Ashley said: “All thanks go to my tutors whose constant pushing and critique (some good and some bad) got me to the final product and in the end got me a commendation and have made me a much better designer than I could have ever hoped to be 2 years ago.”
Jenna Gardner, Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication programme at the University Centre at Blackburn College said: “This amazing achievement just goes to show that there are great opportunities and support at the University Centre at Blackburn College.
“Ashley and Adam’s design concept and solutions throughout the project worked effectively across a variety of channels and platforms, and they achieved their brief of encouraging young professionals to take out travel insurance with AXA.
“Their work was exhibited at Blackburn Cathedral in June 2018, and then within the prestigious Barbican Centre in central London as part of the YCN Awards Ceremony. Ashley and Adam’s work will also be published in the YCN Student Awards book, which will be released later this year.
Jenna added: “This truly is a fantastic achievement and an inspiration for other students on the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication degree programme and beyond. Ashley and Adam are now in their final year of study and we are very much looking forward to following and supporting their career development moving forward!”
