Blackburn College Hosts Young Enterprise North West Start Up Final
Blackburn College has hosted and participated in a major entrepreneurship competition sponsored by a number of prolific businesses.
The Young Enterprise North West Start Up Final featured competitors from eight universities – including the University of Liverpool, University of Chester and the University Centre at Blackburn College.
The prestigious competition – sponsored by Bentley Motors, Manchester Airports Group, Market Place Shopping Centre, DWF and Home Bargains – saw twelve teams vying for three places at the Young Enterprise National Start Up Final.
Caroline Bracewell, Head for the School of Business, Health and Technology at the University Centre at Blackburn College said: “We are honoured to have had the opportunity to host such a significant event.
“We were really impressed by the level of competition at the event and proud to have reached the North West Finals. The University Centre at Blackburn College students should be proud of their business concept and know they have a bright future ahead of them.”
The competition was judged across a number of criteria, including: a product display stand, a boardroom meeting with the judges and a presentation to over a hundred guests.
Andrew Firr, Area Manager (Start Up and Merseyside) at Young Enterprise said: “The event was the largest Regional Final event in the UK and the first time it was ever held in a college. The wide range of products and services pitched on the day is testament to the entrepreneurial attitudes of the students.”
Those moving on to the National Start Up Final include Linkbridge from the University of Bolton, Flav from Manchester Metropolitan University and The Goat Tree from the University of Chester – where a social and ethical approach to entrepreneurship saw them win North West Company of the Year.
Blackburn College colleagues Caroline Bracewell and Sean Starkie were also recognised at the event, winning the North West Start Up Enterprise Ambassador of the Year Award, for their contributions to supporting entrepreneurship at the University Centre.
The University Centre at Blackburn College offers a number of Business degrees designed to nurture entrepreneurship. It’s not too late to make a direct application to start September 2019. Visit www.blackburn.ac.uk to make your application.
