Tiana Edges Closer to Formula One Dream
A Blackburn College student is edging closer to her dream of gaining employment within Formula One.
Tiana Fear, 17, has just secured an Apprenticeship with Grinspeed Motorsport, following successful completion of Maintenance and Repair Specialist (IMI) Level 2 – a classroom based Motor Vehicle course.
Tiana said: “I was a pupil at Parklands High School, so that meant most of my friends went to Runshaw College, but I didn’t want that.
“I wanted the opportunity to make new friends and develop myself as an individual – so I came to Blackburn College.”
The former Chorley pupil decided to study a Technical Motor Vehicle course after initially studying A-Levels and realising it wasn’t for her.
She added: “My passion for motorsports comes from my Dad, who also loves cars, so I’ve had an interest in this from a very young age.
“When I was enrolled on A-Levels, I knew it wasn’t my passion to continue down that route. I’m so glad I was able to switch to a Motor Vehicle course.”
As someone with chronic pain, Tiana has had to persevere in the face of adversity to complete her studies. Her story is a testament to the support she’s received from Blackburn College and her own personal strength of will.
Tiana added: “After completing the first year of my studies, I was convinced I wasn’t going to come back.
“I knew I had to persevere and I found the inner strength to do this and complete my studies.”
In Tiana’s mind, the road to success is clear. She added: “I’ve looked at the requirements for the job I want within Formula One and it requires two years of motorsports experience.
“Completing this upcoming Apprenticeship now that I’ve completed my Technical course will give me the experience I need to achieve my dream job.”
Tiana is grateful to the College for providing her with the opportunities she needs to succeed in her goals.
She said: “Blackburn College has been great because I’ve been able to learn so many new things, while my tutors pushed me to be the very best student I could be.
“I look forward to what the future brings.”
Grinspeed Motorsport are a Leyland-based company providing motorsport services to a number of frontline rally and race teams.
They are established as one of the premier Japanese tuning companies in the North West.
Blackburn College has a long history of working with local employers for the benefit of students. A Technical Motor Vehicle course is a popular route for those looking to progress onto an Apprenticeship, but don’t immediately have the skills to do so.
Applications for September 2019 are open and prospective students are advised to make their application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Prospective students are invited to come along to the College’s next Open Event on Wednesday 13th February from 4.30pm-8pm – to meet tutors, see world-class facilities and learn about the unrivalled support package on offer.
