Blackburn College Captures Bronze at National Cricket Tournament
Blackburn College’s cricket team has placed 3rd at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport National Championships 2019.
Blackburn College beat both Middlesbrough College and Peter Symonds College in a dramatic bowl out, where three players from each team have one bowl each to hit the other teams’ wickets.
By hitting 2 out of 3 wickets, Blackburn College secured the victory; capturing bronze in the process.
Karla Hacking, Physical Activity Coordinator at Blackburn College said: “We are really proud that we came 3rd out of the whole of the UK.”
“This success is testament to the strength of Blackburn College’s cricket training and the dedication of the students involved.
“It also reaffirms Blackburn College’s reputation as the number one choice in the area for those looking to play cricket competitively.”
This was the 4th year in a row that Blackburn College’s cricket team qualified to represent the North West region in the AoC Sport National Championships.
Karla added: “A special thanks goes out to Coach Ismail Lajporia – who successfully motivated and coached the team to a podium finish.”
The AoC Sport National Championships are the largest annual student sporting event in the UK, with nearly 1,800 taking part last year.
Blackburn College’s cricket team is open to students from all curriculum areas and not just those studying a Sport programme.
