Three Talented Photography Students Set for Bright Futures

Three overseas students have enjoyed degree success at Blackburn University Centre.

Joanna Smykla from Poland, Christos Baimpakis from Greece and Monika Bareikyte from Lithuania all studied BA (Hons) Photography.

All three have bright futures, whether that’s moving onto a Masters degree or working in the Photography industry.

Joanna, 30, said: “The thing I have enjoyed the most is the show and tell sessions organised by the tutors. This is where we talked about pictures we took during the week in front of the group.

“During the show and tell sessions, my tutors showed amazing support by providing us with constructive feedback and guidance on how to take the best photographs and what to concentrate on.

“My next steps are to continue my studies by enrolling onto the Masters degree at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and to concentrate on promoting by business.”

Christos, 38, said: “Karen Hope, my tutor from College, recommended Blackburn University Centre. I really enjoyed the support from our tutors but also the weekly tasks we had to do – they helped us achieve our potential.

“The tutors are great, which I think is very important when choosing a University. They have been supporting us all the time. There are a few options for me now, I already work as a freelance photographer, but to work for a related company would be a great start too.”

Monika, 27, said: “The thing I have enjoyed the most is the support; never did I expect to receive so much support! That’s why wherever I go I recommend Blackburn University Centre to everyone.

“My plan after University is to still be using film cameras and to promote my work online. My dream is to see my work in galleries.”

Martyn Pearson, Lecturer in Photographic Media, said: “All of them have been excellent students, creating highly creative and sensitive work. Blackburn University Centre always offers a warm welcome to talented overseas students.
