Blackburn College Providing Budget Shopping Lists, Meal Ideas and Recipes
Blackburn College Catering Manager Peter Gardner is providing shopping lists, meal ideas and recipes that can be bought and created on a budget.
The initiative is mainly aimed at the College’s students and staff but is also open to anyone else who would like to test and improve their cooking skills.
Peter, who has a wealth of experience in the Catering industry, will be sharing shopping lists which include item prices and recipe instruction cards to help people make at least five different meals per week; he will be doing this over the course of the next three weeks.
Shopping lists, item prices, meal ideas and recipe instruction cards will be shared on Blackburn College’s Facebook Page (search: @BBCol) and Twitter account (search: @BBCollege).
Peter said: “The College provides Free College Meals for some vulnerable students when they are on campus, however, because of the latest lockdown restrictions they will now be learning remotely at home.
“Instead of receiving meals, these students are now receiving money from the College to buy food, so I had the idea of creating these recipes so that these students knew what ingredients to spend their money on and how to create nutritious meals, all whilst budgeting. We’ve made sure the amounts for each week correspond with the Free School Meals weekly value.
“However, after thinking about it, we decided to open it up to all students and staff as well, as it’s a chance for everyone to test and improve their cooking skills. I hope my advice and tips help people to enjoy cooking meals and even get creative with their recipes by not being afraid to try new things.”
If those who are getting involved would like to ask Peter any questions they can drop him an email at Peter.Gardner@blackburn.ac.uk between the time slot of 11:30am to 1pm on Mondays to Fridays for the next few weeks.
