Performing Arts and Music Students Enjoy Guest Insight from The Voice UK Winner
Blackburn College’s Level 2 and Level 3 Performing Arts and Music students recently benefitted from a guest speech by 2018’s The Voice UK winner Ruti Olajugbagbe.
Speaking to the College’s learners through video call, Ruti discussed her single ‘My Sunrise’ and her journey through The Voice UK, winning the show and what has been going on in her music career since then.
She also chatted about her industry-related experiences so far, which is valuable information for the College’s students who are aspiring towards careers in the Performing Arts and Music industries.
Ryan North, Lecturer in Music at Blackburn College and former The Voice UK contestant himself, said: “I would like to say thank you to Ruti for taking the time to talk to our Performing Arts and Music learners. They received an incredibly important insight into working in the music industry from a professional and also learned about the kind of preparation they will need to embark on successful careers.”
Tutor Ryan featured on the same season of The Voice UK as Ruti and now teaches at Blackburn College. He joined Team Olly Murs after receiving three judges’ turns during his audition from Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Olly himself.
As well as appearing on The Voice, Ryan performed live at the 2015 Isle of Wight Festival and was also a cruise ship musician and entertainer for two years.
Alongside his impressive performances within the music industry, he also has a solid academic background. Ryan has a BA (Hons) Music Technology and Sound Design degree and a PGCE Post-Graduate Certificate in Education to his name, as well as over nine years of teaching experience; this includes a Head of Music/Music Technology role.
Studying a Performing Arts or Music Performance and Technology course at Blackburn College means you will learn from tutors who have a wealth of exciting experience within these industries.
