Blackburn’s Viola Fronts Blackburn University Centre TV Advert

Blackburn’s Viola Fronts Blackburn University Centre TV AdvertBlackburn graduate Viola Mumbmawaro plays a starring role in Blackburn University Centre’s new Reinvent Yourself television advert.

Viola, originally from Zimbabwe, achieved her dream role as a Chef after studying the Technical Catering and Hospitality Management course. She had a child whilst at College and worked as a Support Worker with her own Catering business on the side, but delayed going to University because she would struggle fitting studies around family commitments.

She shared her positive experience and journey at Blackburn University Centre to encourage potential students to retrain at the Higher Education provider and ‘reinvent themselves’.

Viola said: “I had heard good things about Blackburn University Centre and after meeting with the tutors I knew straight away it was the right place to retrain.

“The tutors were the best aspect for me, being a foreign mature student who originally struggled with speaking English they made me feel supported and capable rather than an outsider. They corrected my English in a sensitive way rather than calling out my mistakes like some previous tutors had.”

She added: “If I missed a class, they would call me directly and motivate me to catch up. I wanted to set a good example for my daughter so decided to get back into Professional Cooking by taking up the opportunity to study at Blackburn University Centre.

“At first it was difficult, then it became normal and then it became fun! I almost dropped out but they encouraged me not to and gave me the confidence that I could do it.”
