Blackburn student to study Engineering degree apprenticeship with BAE Systems

Hamzah Adam

A Blackburn Sixth Form student has been rewarded with a place on a degree apprenticeship with a leading international aerospace company, BAE Systems, after achieving top A-level results.

Hamzah Adam, 19, was offered a place on the scheme, which is run in Salmesbury, after achieving grades A* in Computer Science, A* In Mathematics and A in Physics.

The former Tauheedul Islam Boys High School student said: “The tutors have really supported me in applying for further studies and a degree. Before I started here I didn’t have a clue about my next steps, had never written a personal statement and the tutors have guided and supported me.

“I chose Blackburn Sixth Form because of the choice of subjects that were available to me there and because I felt like I would be treated more like an adult. I didn’t have to wear a school uniform and I knew I would be able to meet friends from other courses on campus during my break. It was a healthy environment in which to study and excel.

"My time at Blackburn college has been heavily enriching and an exciting experience overall and has also provided a great foundation for my personal development.

"The guidance I received from my tutors was instrumental and made me feel confident, motivated and self-assured regarding the university application process. As well as with my applications, my tutors made me feel very optimistic about my performance in my interviews.

"My Degree Apprenticeship is in Data Analysis so I will work four days a week and do my studying during the other day. At the end of five years, I’ll be able to stay at BAE Systems in a full-time role."

Hayley McQueen, Head of Sixth Form at Blackburn College said: “Hamzah has performed exceptionally across all his A-Level subjects. In addition to his academic gifts and insight, he has been consistently enthusiastic, curious and hard working in his approach to his studies.

"In addition, he has taken part in numerous extra-curricular activities and has secured a fantastic degree apprenticeship at an established company where he’ll really excel."
